Almost ten years to the day after Tropical Storm Irene swept through, we finally completed the long and complicated process of securing BDCC and FEMA approvals to save the building by raising it 4’ above flood level, preserving a piece of our town’s history for the future.
This process couldn’t have happened without the help of our local Select Board and Zoning Administrator, and we want to express our gratitude to everyone involved. We would also like to thank all of the people in federal and state agencies who have helped along the way. Plans for this improved space include a street-level commercial space with housing above.
The federal assistance grants to mitigate and eliminate flood damage require property owners to meet engineering regulations and contribute 25% of the overall cost. The two buildings to the west , which collectively house 4 existing commercial businesses and 4 separate housing units, are also in line to enter this mitigation process, preserving even more of the structures that form this street front, while providing much-needed housing for residents.
Thank you for your continuing support and please join us on this journey to improve our downtown spaces!
