~Post Office Update~

If you have driven through North Londonderry lately, you may have noticed a big project underway at the Old Post Office…

Almost ten years to the day after Tropical Storm Irene swept through, we finally completed the long and complicated process of securing BDCC and FEMA approvals to save the building by raising it 4’ above flood level, preserving a piece of our town’s history for the future.

This process couldn’t have happened without the help of our local Select Board and Zoning Administrator, and we want to express our gratitude to everyone involved. We would also like to thank all of the people in federal and state agencies who have helped along the way. Plans for this improved space include a street-level commercial space with housing above.

The federal assistance grants to mitigate and eliminate flood damage require property owners to meet engineering regulations and contribute 25% of the overall cost. The two buildings to the west , which collectively house 4 existing commercial businesses and 4 separate housing units, are also in line to enter this mitigation process, preserving even more of the structures that form this street front, while providing much-needed housing for residents.

Thank you for your continuing support and please join us on this journey to improve our downtown spaces!

The Garden Cafe Restaurant

For over 30 years, visitors to Southern Vermont have gone out of their way to stop for a meal at the Garden. Chef-owner Judith Platt has established a reputation as one of the finest culinary imaginations in the region. Her menus are influenced by the pure and subtle flavors of Europe and Asia, and every meal is a feast for the eyes, served on antique plates and garnished with edible flowers. Whether you enjoy her winter menus with the finest cuts of beef and seafood prepared to perfection or you arrive in the summer months to experience her tasting menu—with five courses, each one topping the last — you are assured a dining experience you will never forget. Signature dishes like the Bombay Vegetable Curry and Eggplant Roulade have drawn a loyal vegetarian following as well. Whether dining for two in the main dining room in front of the round fireplace or enjoying a private rehearsal dinner party in the new events room, a meal at the Garden is sure to delight all the senses.
